What Meadowcompassq Does — and Why It Exists
Independent economics journalism for readers who want facts over noise.
Meadowcompassq is an English-language economics news outlet covering Thailand with a pronounced regional focus on Nakhon Ratchasima and the Isan provinces. We were founded in 2019 by a small team of journalists and data analysts who had spent years covering Thai business and economic policy for national publications — and who felt that the Northeast, home to roughly a third of Thailand's population, was consistently underrepresented in serious economic journalism. Our coverage spans five core areas: macro-economy, business and industry, the labor market, fiscal and monetary policy, and household budgets. In each of these areas, our standard is the same — factual, sourced, measured reporting that respects the reader's ability to evaluate evidence and form their own view. We do not publish investment advice, trading signals, or speculation about asset prices. We cover the economy as a social and structural phenomenon: who earns what, who pays what, which policies change those equations, and what the data actually shows when you look at it carefully. Since 2019, we have published over 400 articles, worked with researchers at three Thai universities, and built a readership that spans university students, NGO staff, business owners, and policy professionals across the region.
How Our Editorial Process Works — and What We Don't Cover
Transparency about our methods and our limits is non-negotiable.
Every article published by Meadowcompassq goes through a two-stage editorial review: factual verification of all statistics against primary sources (National Statistical Office data, Bank of Thailand releases, ministry announcements, and peer-reviewed research), followed by editorial review for clarity, balance, and appropriate framing of uncertainty. Where our reporters have opinions about policy, they're kept in clearly labeled commentary — not embedded in news or analysis pieces as hidden conclusions. We're a small team — currently six people — and that constrains what we can cover. We don't report on individual company stock performance, we don't produce market summaries or price forecasts, and we don't cover cryptocurrency or foreign-exchange trading in any form. Our regional focus means we sometimes miss stories that a larger, Bangkok-based organization would catch faster. What we offer instead is consistent depth on the economic realities of the Northeast: the issues that large outlets treat as provincial footnotes, we treat as the main story. Results in economic journalism — like outcomes in the economy itself — depend on many factors outside any one team's control: data quality, political transparency, access to sources. We report what we can verify; we say clearly when we cannot.
